John Matyi
Alabama Editor
John Matyi has actively promoted the conservative Republican perspective since 1968 when he registered with the Republican Party in his home state of Connecticut.
John graduated from Southern Connecticut State University and then Fordham University with a Masters of Social Work graduate degree (MSW).
He served in the US Army with the infantry in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star ("V" device) for actions against a hostile force in 1967.
John decided to someday move to the South while he was stationed in Georgia and Mississippi for military training. After graduating from Fordham he began his career with the Department of Veterans Affairs (1985) in psychiatry and finally moved to Birmingham, Alabama in September of 1986. He retired from Government service in 2003 and continues to reside in Alabaster, Alabama with his wife Dorothy of 39 years.
Even in the conservative "Bible Belt" John found that Liberal ideas were attempting to establish a foothold and he continues to fight socialist ideas disguised as the platform of many "Liberals." Since retiring John has devoted a fair amount of time doing political research which he often sends out to a growing list of friends, family and colleagues. He also corresponds with many veterans and present day military to strengthen their conservative view and this has been very satisfying and fulfilling to John.
In 2003 he began his volunteer efforts volunteering as a Grass Roots team leader to help reelect George W. Bush. John is also active in the Alabama Republican party; he worked as a volunteer to reelect Senator Shelby (Rep. AL) in his last election. He is an active member of the NRA, the Catholic Church, and now also works at training dogs to help stop the growing number of pets that are euthanized yearly due to preventable inappropriate behavior.
