A Note Regarding PAC Contributions

With the elections less then 30 days away, we all have been inundated with request after request for contributions both via e-mail and through traditional direct mail methods. This is an Election Day in which the results will have profound effects not only on us, but our children and grandchildren.

With that in mind, there are far too many people and groups in both parties which seek to raise funds under the pretence that their efforts and the contributions you make to them are being used solely for efforts to Get Out The Vote or to run issue-based commercials.

We have seen it in hurricane relief efforts, during the court battle for Terri Schiavo's right to life, and for efforts to support our troops. Yes, there are many PACs and groups who will always "do the ethical thing" with your contributions. There are many of those groups which will use the funds received as promised. But we all know that there are also those who do not. I encourage you to research these groups BEFORE making your contribution.

In these tough economic times, we must be certain that all monies we donate are, in fact, being used to help the candidates we intend to help. For example, do not be mislead by some of the groups that appear to be "Official Campaign Committees" to elect Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin. If you wish to donate to them donate directly to them or to the Republican National Committee. We all have seen how Barack Obama has used a seal similar to that of the presidential seal for his campaign, so keep in mind that an official-looking seal or bumper sticker does not necessarily represent an affiliation with a committee or campaign.

You can check out the validity of most committees by going to the Federal Election Committees website: www.FEC.gov. This site has plenty of useful information as to where and how the organization's funds are spent and who is receiving them.
